Kasbah Ellouze, Ait Benhaddou

Unmatched hospitality in a restored Kasbah from Colette and Michel.

Michel and Colette, the owners of Kasbah Ellouze, have been keeping a tidy house for more than a decade now. If they are not so present on Instagram or Facebook and their website looks like 1998, it’s because they don’t have the time for it. Or the need. They are busy looking after their guests, many of whom are here on repeat stay or following the word of mouth. And I can’t think of a good reason why they shouldn’t. What I always admired about Colette is that rare quality to welcome each guest like it is her first. Michel supervises the cuisine, himself a former chef from the time they used to keep a gite in rural France. His other passion is jazz and you must appreciate the irony of having photos of Duke or Miles decorating a restaurant in deep countryside Morocco… On the plate, it is Moroccan affair with a twist of French. Wine and beer are available on site. Get Omar to show you around the troglodyte grottoes if you can, or have a walk under the olive trees by the river at dawn. Your only regret will be leaving.
